September 2025 - Brazilian Crop and Exports
Overview
The market remains very slow. China has reduced its demand, while growers are preparing some areas for planting. A significant reduction in planted area is expected. Farmers’ stocks are at similar levels, with few peanuts being moved.
Last month, I lectured about peanut exports at an event for growers, where I had the chance to talk to many of them. Most — if not all — are planning to reduce their planting area by 20–40%, even though area costs appear to have decreased by 20–30%. Nevertheless, some growers pointed out that, by the end of the planting period (October), landowners often accept lower prices in order to rent out land. Seed producers have also reported a sharp decline in demand compared to last year. The reduction in planted area seems certain; the only question is how much.
Europe remains generally quiet, although some demand could appear. Russia was expected to buy more, but demand there also seems very slow. The only active buyer, China, has now slowed its purchases due to its own harvest.
This Chinese slowdown is particularly important. As I highlighted in the last report, Brazil has become highly exposed: in August, more than half of Brazilian kernels exports went to China, this without even mentioning the 12 thousand tons of peanut oil. The coming months will show whether this demand has indeed decreased, by how much, and what the impact on peanut prices will be.
Exports
Kernel and oil exports decreased slightly in August. Exports to China reached another record, however, exports to the other destinations decreased considerably.

During August, Brazil exported about 30 thousand tons of peanuts, this represents an 8,3 % decrease compared to the previous month. And a 33% increase compared to August 2024. This volume adds to a total 180 thousand tons of peanuts exported this year.

Once again, China is on the roof in the peanut exports by destination chart. 55% of the peanut kernels exports went there. 16.6 thousand tons. In statistics we learn that outliers must be disregarded, and if we disregard Chinese imports, Brazil is left with 13.4 thousand tons. The last time Brazil exported less than 13.4 thousand tons in August was in 2016 (10 thousand tons). And Brazil production by then was of 500 thousand tons, which means less than half of current production.
EU and Russia are down similarly by 1.6 thousand tons, while exports to Algeria are almost nothing.
Peanut Oil

Brazil exports of penaut oil during July were of 14 thousand tons, this is a 20% decrease compared to last month. And a 213% increase, compared to August 24.
This number adds to a total of about 98 thousand tons of peanut oil exported this year, 174% more than last year, which is fundamental for Brazil hopes of avoiding the oversupply.
As I mentioned before, these exports are also very dependent on the Chinese demand, so we will have to see how the demand behaves.

While China decrease its imports compared to last month, Italy doubled its imports, with a minor significance, but still good to see.
