January 2026 - Brazilian crop and Exports
Overview
First of all, I would like to wish every reader a very good 2026, I hope that the year brings much progress to our sector!
Brazilian crop is developing well. Growers call this moment onwards the “second half”, where weather will be decisive for the outcome of the crop. So far, most of the growers and exporters are positive about the progress.
Despite the reduction in planted area, there is a positive outlook for productivity. I had a conversation this week with agronomist Jair Heuert—well known for his research on Brazilian peanuts. In his view, this decrease in area should not be interpreted as a setback, but rather as a strategic decision.
According to Jair’s analysis, in previous years many producers expanded their planted areas beyond their operational capacity, supported by high international market prices. By readjusting the planted area to their true operational capacity, farmers are able to manage their crops more effectively, carrying out planting at the optimal time, applying fungicides with greater precision, and performing digging/harvesting at the correct stage of maturity.
This adjustment tends to reduce losses, improve grain quality, and increase production efficiency. With fewer hectares to manage, financial management also becomes more balanced, allowing greater focus on technology, genetics, and the rational use of inputs.
As a result, this movement creates room for national average productivity to finally exceed the level of 4 tons per hectare, even in a scenario of reduced total planted area.
Below some pictures of the crop development, same fields as previous reports:

Exports
Exports of kernels are up in December, reaching a record high of about 40 thousand metric tonnes. While peanut oil exports are slightly up, reasserting 2025 as the year where Brazil exported the highest volume of peanut oil in history, by far.
With the December figures out, we are able to analyze the whole calendar year exports:

Exports of kernels are up, during December, Brazil exported about 40 thousand tonnes, 35% more vis-à-vis November. And up 175% when compared to December 24.
This is a record high to Brazil, a very expressive and important number, before last month, Brazil highest exported volume was in June 2020, with about 36 thousand tons.
The December figure adds to a total of 311 thousand tons exported year to date, and 261 thousand tons crop year (April – now) so far. This means a record year for kernel exports, surpassing 2023.
Therefore, 2025 has been the year when Brazil exported more kernels and more oil in history, this is certainly impact the forecasts we had for carryover in the beginning of the year, with a much lesser volume than expected.

While exports to China keep going down, with BIDs lower and lower from the Chinese, exports to Russia and Algeria took big leaps, reaching 10.000 tons during the last month of 2025.
Another responsible for the increase in exports of kernels in December were the EU26, that increase imports by about 1,5 thousand tons, reaching 5,2 thousand tons.

One more month of increase in the peanut oil side, this time a much slighter increase, nevertheless a very significant number of about 16 thousand tons. One more big number that now add to a total of 154 thousand tons, this is by far the highest volume Brazil has seen exported in a year. As can be seen in the graph below.

Regarding the destination of the peanut oil, Chine decrease its imports very slightly, while Italy increased in similar amounts.
