August 2025 - Brazilian Crop and Exports
Overview
Tariffs were the main topic in the last peanut reports around the globe, this shows how slow the peanut market is, so I will do my part: In Brazil, the tariffs signed by Trump came with a 700 items exception list, which has been a relief. The USA represent about 13% of Brazil total exports, and with the exception list the impact in our economy was not so harsh. The exports to China, nevertheless, represent 28% of Brazilian exports, and that has been crucial for the peanut sector…
While the international peanut market is on vacation, China saw, in the past months, in South American big crops, an opportunity for buying low price peanuts for crushing, peanut oil and edible kernels. The Brazilian exporters saw an opportunity to sell their overstocks and now the export numbers show how significant that demand really was, in July, Brazil exported 14 thousand tons of peanut kernels to China, however, with the Chinese crop coming closer and closer, the market expects the demand to go down.
With the Argentine crop about 90% harvested, the feeling of oversupply is bigger than ever, and it will very likely remain for the next crop, even with the area decreases. Therefore, Europe is very quiet with almost no demand showing, Russia is starting to crawl but still very slowly and Algeria seem to be causing issues for Brazilian exporters, which will not help with exports moving forward.
The Brazilian crop planting comes closer and there are estimations of 20% decrease in area in the states of São Paulo, while other states apparently will remain stable. It is still very unclear though, and more precise estimations will show by the end of August.
Exports
The kernel export contracts to China are finally showing up in the export numbers, Brazil exported astounding 14 thousand tons of peanuts to China During July, resulting in a total of 32,3 thousand tons this month, which is a very good number in the Brazilian export history.
In the peanut oil side, another record number with 17,6 thousand tons exported, 16,4 being to China, the oil export numbers have been really significant for the Brazilian peanut sector.

During July, Brazil exported 32 thousand tons of peanuts, this represents a 60 % increase compared to May 25. And a 107% increase compared to July 2024. Although this is a very good number for exports, the question of what will happen when the Chinese demand slows down is concerning. Without the 14 thousand tons to China, Brazil is left with 18 thousand tons exported in July.
This volume adds to a total 150 thousand tons of peanuts exported this year, if we maintain the average export of 21 thousand tons per month, by December we would have exported about 255 thousand tons. Not bad compared to last year but may not be enough to avoid a carry over.

The destination graph, now very distorted by Chinese imports, come to confirm the last market interpretations:
Algeria imports are decreasing still. Russia has increased about one thousand tons. EU increased about 1,7 thousand tons, most likely a result of contracts being fulfilled. And China hovering above with its 14 thousand tons.
Peanut Oil

Brazil exports of penaut oil during July were of 17,6 thousand tons, this is a 30% increase compared to last month. And a incredible 291% increase, compared to July 24.
This number adds to a total of about 84 thousand tons of peanut oil exported this year, 168% more than last year, which is fundamental for Brazil hopes of avoiding the oversupply, because it represents about 210 tons of peanuts crushed.
Nevertheless, this exports are also very dependent on the Chinese demand, so we will have to see how the market behaves with the Chinese crop around the corner.
